How to Use the VESA DisplayHDR Test

If you are considering buying a new HDR monitor or TV, it is vital to find out whether it is DisplayHDR-certified. The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has announced a free software testing tool called the "DisplayHDR Test." The tool allows you to test and compare the brightness and contrast of HDR monitors to manufacturers' specifications. The display test is the first step in determining whether your monitor or TV is compatible with the HDR standard.

To get started, open the VESA DisplayHDR Test app from Microsoft's store. You will want to set the white balance of the two displays to be the same. Start by selecting an SDR application with a full-white background. Once you've made your choice, use the app to compare the white levels of the two. If you don't have a VESA display, you can download a free version from the Microsoft Store.

The next step is to check for HDR certification. Although many LCD monitors claim to support HDR, they may be using pseudo-specs. To make sure your screen is certified, check the list of HDR products. If it's certified, it will be listed on the list. When purchasing a new LCD monitor, look for a display with a high-quality display. If it's not, you should choose a different model.
